VIDEO: Runnin' by Adam Lambert

I love so many genres of music but sometimes I get bored with what I have. I recently downloaded albums by Adam Lambert, David Cook, Ed Sheeran, The Secret Garden musical soundtrack and other random songs.

I've had all my new songs playing on repeat and shuffle for the past weeks and, I must say, Runnin' by Adam Lambert is currently my favourite song! I love it!

BLOG: So you want to be a fashion stylist ...

While my 'ABOUT' page is down, I thought it was about time I did a bit of a Q&A just to fill the void. I was answering some of my most asked questions and I got to a question which had a very long answer so I wanted to dedicate a whole entry to it.

So here's my general skills that'll help you in your quest to become a fashion stylist.

Please note though, I am no expect. I am on my journey, just like everyone else. Everyone has their own path and there's no set plan on how to be successful. Work hard and do as much experience (paid or free) as you can. It might be a crappy job but you might meet someone there who will help you in the long run.

1. Become comfortable with a clothes steamer. It might seem like a simple tool to use - and in some ways, it is. But it's a good skill to know how to hold a garment so it's steamed properly.
2. Practise ironing. Just like a steamer, knowing how to iron properly will help you. Shirts are especially difficult so practise practise practise.
3. Learn to tie different knot ties. There's not just one type and if you're working with a suit, you'll more than likely be required to know how to tie a tie.
4. It doesn't hurt to have some basic sewing skills.
5. Become fast at taping shoes. It's the most boring job in the world but a vital one (especially if you want to get into catwalk and photoshoots). Any kind of wedge heel is the worst so I recommend starting with those.
6. Stay on top of trends and learn your history. If you know your facts, you're likely to impress :)
7. Promote. Get the word out, make business cards, make contacts etc etc. Dressing up your friends and doing a photoshoot is good for your portfolio, or even taking a friend shopping and dressing them from head to toe. Practise = experience, no matter how big or small.
8. Keep a notebook of handy websites, store addresses, names and numbers. I find this most useful when I'm at home or on the road. Of course, it depends on the job but it doesn't hurt to have a list just incase. If you're on a job, do some research on nearby shops, coffeeshops, drycleaners, basically anyone who you might need last minute on the day and add it to your book.

Those are my tips for absolute beginners. It's a hard road but it has a lot of advantages. There are more specific tips but these are more genetric skills that are always good to have - as styling is so broad (TV, photosohoot, flat lays, etc etc not to mention non-fashion stylists) and every job is so different, so it's better to learn those on the job. Just remember, every great stylist started off as a beginner :)

Stay tuned for the full Q&A in a little while. If you have any questions, you can email me or leave me a comment ion my blog.

I've been looking for the perfect local alternative store to fashiononlogy.nl (who sells gemstone necklaces). So enter Damselfly with this gorgeous Sorcerer Neckpiece. It comes in Amethyst, Quartz or Citrine. It's also perfect if you prefer gold to silver. The Citrine is officially on my wishlist - it's my birthstone too :)

LOVE: Soft Floral Tie Shirt by Bardot

I saw this Soft Floral Tie Shirt by Bardot in store yesterday and if I hadn't been in such a hurry, I probably would have bought it. I've been looking for the perfect floral shirt for months. I have animal prints, tartans etc but nothing floral. I know what I'll match it with too - which is always a good reason to buy.

I love the pretty colours in this shirt. It's gorgeous!

NEW: Clothes Steamer by Sieger

I'm so happy to show you my new toy that I got over the weekend. I actually bought my Clothes Steamer by Sieger (I believe you can buy them in Target for around $100, I think) last week on eBay (second hand/used once for $28 booyeah!) but my friend picked it up and dropped it over on Saturday. I'm not a fan of ironing (and steaming is just more fun!) so it's a wise investment and it'll save me money on dry cleaning which is always good.

This weekend was an eventful one. I actually didn't leave the house except for a hairdressing appointment (where I wore my Limelight Blazer and everyone was looking at me ... whether or not they liked it, I'm not sure but it definitely gets attention good or bad). I was feeling a little under the weather so I had to cancel Saturday and Sunday night plans - but amongst all this, my Ipod dock decided to just up and die on me :'( So lucky I still have a CD player but only one speaker works and I don't have as many CDs as I do mp3s. So I need to replace my Ipod dock asap before I officially go crazy (crazier?!) from lack of music lol.

Have a good week everybody!

LOVE: Singlet With Double Layer by ASOS

Considering adding this Singlet With Double Layer by ASOS to my already growing yellow collection. I just like the idea that you can wear the tanks together or separately. Two for the price of one. Would be great to take on any holiday - that's three looks in one! I think I just talked myself into it ... not that I needed much convincing ;)

LOVE: Little Horse Printed White Shirt by Romwe

I very sporadically look at Romwe. I know that if I look everyday, I'll be tempted to buy and I'm still trying to save as much money as I can for my grand birthday in November. But I do so love this Little Horse Printed White Shirt. I'm infamous for my love of horse prints and horse jewellery. I'm resisting every urge not to buy this right now ... need to focus on something else ...

Last night I went for drinks with some old classmates and teachers. I had a great night and it was great to catch up with people that I hadn't seen i n a while. I don't have a hangover (thanks Seb for the drink by the way =D) but I didn't get much sleep :\ Photos were taken and hopefully I'll get a copy very soon :)

Have a great weekend everybody!

INSPIRE: Allison Harvard

I'm sure there's many of you who are fans of ANTM. In Australia we are currently half way through season 17 and the beginning of season 16 (makeovers are next week). Very silly on them to start season 17 before season 16 considering 17 is All Stars and Alexandria from cycle 16 is competing. But anywho ... I think we will forever be behind. And it's just impossible to not be spoiled so unfortunately I know who wins cycles 16, 17 and 18 :\ It does ruin the whole season, I'll admit.

One of my favourite models is Allison Harvard. A friend of mine says that I remind her of Allison. I see it sometimes. It's not her looks, it's more her mannerisms. I'll take that as a compliment, I guess.

OUTFIT: More Than This Provincial Life

This is another outfit post from The Forgotten Collection. This outfit is in complete contrast to how I'm dressed at the moment. I'm in complete casual clothes because today is dedicated to cleaning and other housework - not the most exciting day, I'll tell you. But I'm very busy planning my next two weekends (and doubling up! grr!) so my phone is ringing non-stop. But more on this later :)

NEW: Luxe Ensemble Midi Dress by Queen's Wardrobe

I'll admit it, there's a tiny piece of me that's a bit of a shopaholic. I try not to let her out too often because she doesn't have to worry about the fees that comes with a negative balance in my bank account. There's another side of me, who is an amazing hard-core *coughtightarsecough* saver. I always make sure I've put money into my savings account before buying anything.

But ... as of late, I seem to have bought a lot over the past couple of weeks :\ So now, the shopaholic in me is going to be put back into her cage ... for a little while anyway :) I have something special on the last weekend of June that I have to pay for - but more on that later ...

I couldn't resist when I saw this Luxe Ensemble Midi Dress by Queen's Wardrobe. I mean, come on, it's got pockets - who can say no to pockets?! My pink dress that you can see [here] has a stain so I want to replace it (even though, knowing the hoarder in me won't be able to throw it out :\) This one is a perfect replacement!

My rule with buying is basically, don't spend over $100 on any item. I sometimes will go a little over on special purchases *coughthiscough* but only on rare occasions. I believe that you don't have to spend a lot to look like a million dollars. But it also keeps the saver and shopaholic sides of me happy :)

EVENT: Rock Of Ages

I'm not usually one to review movies (so don't get used to it :P)  but I saw Rock Of Ages tonight and I absolutely LOVED it! So much so, I would actually buy it when it comes out (last movie I bought was HP last year ...) I'm very picky when it comes to clothes, music and shoes, so it should come to no surprise to you that I'm very picky when it comes to movies. I hate a lot of movies that are really popular but my main like about movies is when I don't know how they are going to end. I especially have a problem with romantic comedies that doesn't have an interesting plot other than the two leads obviously going to fall in love at the end. Bore. It's been done. The end is the most important part for me when it comes to liking movies ...

... but back to Rock Of Ages. It's brilliant. Now, it's no secret that I am a fan of musicals so I might be a little biased. But I thought it was a nice little musical adaption of the stage production - which I haven't seen (so nice to not have any idea about the story) Whether you are a fan of Tom Cruise or not, he is absolutely brilliant in it that you don't even think of it being Tom Cruise. But my absolute favourite parts were the scenes/songs between Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand. They were hilarious! I only wish that Paul Giamatti got a solo - but it wasn't vital to the story so I can understand why he didn't have much of a singing part in the movie.

Sure, the story is a little cheesy and the lead actors aren't the strongest performers - but it's a fun movie. For the record, it's no misery that the two main leads are going to fall in love but their love story is not the storyline that drives the movie :)

It'll definitely please any fans of musicals - it has a lot of Glee moments in it too mainly thanks to 'Don't Stop Believing' sung by the two romantic lead andits  many 'mash-upss'. There's romance, singing, dancing, humour and some very raunchy scenes VERY! - not sex scenes but it's perhaps not the best movie to watch with your Grandmother ... Julianne Hough reminded me so much of Audrey O'Day.

I walked out the cinema just wanting to buy tickets for a later session and see it again straight away. I can't wait to buy it and watch it over and over again. I definitely recommend it! But bare in mind, it's not going to be a movie that everyone will enjoy - but as you can tell, I loved it!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Mint has been a trend for a while but as it's still very popular, I thought I would do a trend entry on it anyway :) I'm actually considering buying the mint jumper above - I've had my eye on it for a while. It's on sale and sale items make me happy!

EVENT: Annie the Musical

Last night my sister and I had the pleasure of going to see the musical Annie at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. We hadn't been to a musical since A Chorus Line back in February so it was nice to go to the theatre again - a place I've been so many times before and I never tire of.

All details under the cut ... no outfit photos sadly. My sister doesn't know about my blog so ....

NEW: The Limelight Blazer by Dotti

There are times in your life when you feel fashionable. There's a big different from great dressing to fashionable. Fashionable is when you're dressed in trend. Last night, I wore my new The Limelight Blazer by Dotti - bought yesterday and worn straight away. I felt amazing!

I love my new blazer. Once I saw it, I just knew that I had to have it!
... see, told you that I liked neon yellow ;) not to mention the black piping detail inside. Gorg!

Influence by MKA and Gold Dust Sequin Shorts by Nasty Gal arrived today :) Yahoo!

I'm typing this as I'm rushing to leave my house to do some light shopping before having to rush home and get ready for tonight and I have NO idea what I'm going to wear. TREND: Neon Yellow

So I know that it's not only neon yellow that's on trend at the moment but if it's not already obvious to anybody reading, neon yellow is my favourite of the neons :) What I love about yellow more than anything is all the variations of neon that you can get - from the muted, bright, lime hues etc. I adore!

LOVE: Night Owl Handbag by Mary Frances

Do you want to know a little secret about me? Truth is, I'm not one of those people who have a wardrobe full of lots of bags because I'm so picky that once I find one I like, I will hold on it and use it all the time (hence why bags generally aren't in my outfit posts). Could be because I won't buy leather so it somewhat limits my choices too but who knows ...

But despite that, I do love whimsical bags like this Night Owl Handbag by Mary Frances via tvsn. It's incredibly adorable!

I am, however, on the look out for a new black bag as my last one broke. The second strap broke in a shopping centre - uber embarrassing! The first strap broke in a work meeting - also uber embarrassing. So the search continues .... so far, I'm not having much luck :\

NEW: Side Dip Tank by Bardot

Looking at this photos makes me realise how badly my house is falling to pieces :\ You can see the scratch under my window where the cat likes to reach up to annoy me for food or attention. You can see the window stickers from my youth that have melted and are forever stuck on there. And I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll be able to see the tears in my curtains too. Oh the luxuries lol.

But I forgot to say that a couple of weeks ago I bought this Side Dip Tank by Bardot. I've worn it so many times that it doesn't even feel new anymore. I'm pretty sure every time I've worn it someone has complimented me so it was definitely a good buy from that perspective :) It's now sold out in stores but luckily, I found one hidden in Myer.

Happy Queen's Birthday holiday to all the Aussies (minus WA, I think) today! Yesterday I went out for my friend's birthday and saw a lovely French film. So it's been a nice weekend.

My wish list at the moment is a bit long so hopefully I'll have a NEW post soon.

VIDEO: Lego House by Ed Sheeran

When I was younger, I wanted my sister to marry Rupert Grint. I was young so naturally, I thought it were possible. She was born in the same year as Rupert so I thought it was a perfect match (because somehow in my head, being the same age meant the relationship would work?!)

But after watching this video, it just makes me wish that she had. He's so adorable in this video. I just want to hug him because I feel so sorry for "him" - even if he is a bit of a freaky, obsessed stalker. It's a good video. I like.

I'm sure everyone and their mumma has seen this video but I just wanted to share it anyway.

BLOG: 13 Questions

I saw (well I guess heard?) there is 13 questions going around YouTube so I thought it might be a bit of fun to do it on my blog. My friend tagged me to do it but as I'm not quite ready to be a YouTube "star" yet, I'll just blog them instead :) I also haven't done a Q&A on here before - I'm not sure if anyone would be interested? Maybe let me know either way.

x

1. What do you order at Starbucks?
I actually don't think I've ever been to Starbucks. If I have, I don't remember. I don't drink any hot drinks (I used to fruity-flavoured tea but I haven't for a long time). I prefer to drink soda or water. So short of a muffin or snack, I probably wouldn't order anything.

2. What is one thing in your closet that you couldn't live without?
My style is constantly changing so that's hard to say. I guess my Little Black Dress would be the item that would be hardest to live without and replace. It's the perfect dress for all occasions. I've worn it so many times!

3. What is one thing that most people probably won't know about you?
My first kiss was out the front of a graveyard. Weird, yes? It's a long story but it's the truth.

4. Name one thing you want to do before you die?
I've always wanted to crush grapes into wine with my feet like the olden days. (Too weird?)

5. What's one food that you cannot live without?
Spinach. I eat it more than anything else.

6. A quote/phrase you live your life by?
I don't have a quote or phrase but I try to treat everyone with kindness. I guess, I don't judge a book by its cover would be the closest quote I live by.

7. What do you like about the Blogger (changed from Youtube) community?
I like that most people are really kind and supportive of your individual style. If I see a look that might not be my style, I can still appreciate how stylish and put together others can be. I also think that there's great opportunities out there for bloggers. The support of, not only other bloggers, but, also, companies and magazines etc is really amazing. It's an amazing social medium to be a part of.

8. What do you dislike about the Blogger (changed from Youtube) community?
Some people can be really harsh with their comments. I believe that if you don't like a look it's better to say something like 'It's not to my liking but I can appreciate the look' rather than 'It's horrible and I hate it' etc. Be constructive, rather than just mean.

9. What is your number 1 most listened song?
I have a 120GB iPod so I have a HUGE collection of music. My music is based on mood so I don't really have one overall song that I listen to the most. My favourite song ever is 'I'll Be' by Edwin McCain but I do listen to 'Georgia on my Mind' by Michael Bolton a lot because it's simply amazing! Lately, though, I've been listening to a lot of new stuff by Hanson because I'm trying to learn the lyrics for their upcoming concert.

10. Your favourite number?
Eleven. Always has been.

11. Name two hobbies?
I love yoga and pilates. I started doing it when I lived in Holland. I've always wanted to learn the tango so that's something that I'd like to learn in the future. I also like to draw and sketch as much as possible.

12. Two pet peeves?
I will never understand cruelty to animals, that's number 1. Secondly, I dislike when people say they hate something if they've never given it a go. That goes for movies, foods, fads, fashion, everything.

13. Name a guilty pleasure?
I'm a bit of a nerd so I love to nerd-out and talk nerd with other nerds about nerdy things =P
