I've been obsessed lately with watching videos of girl's receiving thrifted mystery style bundles, so much so that unsurprisingly I want to get one of my own. I've found myself in a bit of a style rut lately. I know what I like and I know what I want but little I own fits me at the moment and I don't have the budget to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothing. I also find it extremely difficult finding thrifted gems.
I describe my style as 'corporate rock and roll'. It may fall under alt corporate, but from what I've seen it's all a little too goth for me. But I like pencil skirts, pencil dresses and blazers with a rock and roll twist like studs, lace, leather, tartan, tulle, embellishments, sequins, band tees, dark florals and of course, black boots.
Curious, I reached out to a seller on Etsy who offers curated mystery boxes based on your style. I sent her my Pinterest board and told her what I was looking for. I didn't pay her, however, as we agreed that she would see if she could find pieces I would like before committing while she was doing her usual thrifting.
Here are some examples of the style board I sent her.

I think my Pinterest board is a good representation of my desired aesthetic and clearly shows what I like. I told her to take a week to see what she could find but I received a message within two days. She asked if I wanted to see the pieces she would pick for me, even though that would ruin the surprise. I said yes.
Now, it wasn't that I didn't pay her because I'm an awful person, I really just wanted to make sure that she understood what I wanted as well as my style. I just didn't want to waste my money to get a bunch of items that I hated. She had good reviews, but all her clients had more basic styles than me. I'm also really picky.
These are some of the pieces she suggested:

Now objectively, none of the pieces are bad. They all look like decent quality, but I'm confused where my style comes in. The silhouettes are wrong and it's not giving off the vibe I asked for. I think the sequin piece is a good choice, or at least the best. She also threw in some wildcards but even though were bad choices for me.
In the end we decided to not go ahead with me purchasing. I'm unsure if she just didn't understand my style or where she shops had limited options, but it's made me scared to purchase in the future because I don't want to end up in the same situation as this. I know it's a risk you take but I didn't expect it to be this bad!
If anyone has any suggestions of someone who might be better at curating a mystery bundle in my style more so than who I asked, please comment below. But granted, I'm glad I didn't buy this bundle.
